Enrico Tonucci graduated from the art college in Porta Romana in Florence and has been working as a designer and artistic advisor for Italian and international companies since 1970. The brand that bears his name sets its roots in that original design culture, inheriting its production structure from Manifestodesign, founded in 2006. In 2023, his daughter Viola took over the creative leadership and relaunched the brand under a renewed identity — without erasing what made it worth preserving. "We are not nostalgic," Viola has said, "but we are loyal — to materials, to artisans, to real beauty." That distinction between nostalgia and loyalty is a useful one, and it runs through every piece the brand produces.
The 2023 relaunch introduced three distinct collections that speak to different lifestyles but share the same DNA. Nomadic is built around flexibility — folding furniture that moves between indoor and outdoor use without compromise, anchored by the Regista director's chair in solid walnut or iroko and the Octagon side table. Origami takes full-grain leather and folds it with structural precision, producing poufs and seats — most notably the Bao — whose geometric forms hold their shape through the leather itself rather than internal padding. Extraordinary is the most expressive of the three: accent pieces that challenge conventional form, including mirrors, ottomans, and sculptural furniture objects designed as functional artworks. The Maone ottoman, sculpted from natural woven leather treated with plant tannins, sits somewhere between seating and sculpture without fully committing to either — which is precisely the point.
FSC-certified solid wood, full-grain leather, and stainless steel hardware are standard across the product line. All finishes are applied manually, and no synthetic upholstery or composites are used. The range currently includes:
Production runs in small batches to ensure quality and traceability, with all work carried out in the Marche region of Italy. Bespoke commissions are available across most of the catalogue — dimensions, leather grades, wood species, and metal finishes can all be specified individually.
Each piece explores the deep connection between individuals and space, standing the test of time and trends. That is not a marketing ambition — it is a material consequence of how the furniture is made. The result is furniture that matures naturally over time and can be easily maintained or restored. Full-grain leather develops a patina that synthetic alternatives cannot fake; solid wood responds to its environment in ways that composites do not. The brand has continued to expand its presence at international trade shows, including Maison & Objet in Paris and Clerkenwell Design Week in London — contexts that place it alongside the European furniture names it genuinely belongs with. For interiors where the furniture is expected to outlast the renovation, Tonucci Collection is a considered choice rather than a convenient one.
